The Dabgar trace their origin to Rajput clans who used to make shields of leather for use in battle. Their traditional primary occupation has been the tanning of animal hides.
Today the Dagbar people can be in many vocations, but they are more likely to be makers of umbrellas and musical instruments. Others are day laborers.
The Dabgar people are Hindus. A Brahmin fixes the date and time for betrothals and marriage. Their community goddess is Ashpura. The Nai, Garo Brahmin and Rawal (for drum beating) assist them in their life-cycle rituals.
Lack of Christian workers able to communicate in the languages of the Dabgar people may slow the advance of the good news of Jesus to them.
Pray for Christian workers who know how to communicate the gospel orally to be sent to the Dabgar people in the Lord's timing. Pray for spiritual hunger that will give them the willingness to embrace Jesus Christ no matter what the cost. Please pray this low status people group would be able to improve their standard of living in the years ahead.
